IPL 2021 Auction: Former India batsman Aakash Chopra said Arjun Tendulkar has a great opportunity to learn from the best in the business after the 21-year-old was picked up by Mumbai Indians at Thursday’s auction.

There were quite a few feel-good stories at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction and one of them was certainly 21-year-old Arjun Tendulkar getting picked with the last bid on Thursday by defending champions Mumbai Indians.
Arjun Tendulkar was in the shortlisted list of 292 players but the young all-rounder’s name did not crop up before the final round of accelerated auction. Just when a few eyebrows were raised, Arjun’s name came up for bidding and Mumbai Indians bought him at his base price of Rs 20 crore with the only bid.
Arjun Tendulkar’s name has generated buzz ever since he was spotted as a teenager playing the sport at the competitive level. The son of legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun has had quality exposure has he had the opportunity to train with the senior India cricket team and England during his training stint at the Lord’s. Arjun had been a net bowler for Mumbai Indians even as he regularly represented Mumbai at the age-group level.
Stressing that Arjun has been showcasing his talent at the domestic level, Aakash Chopra said the opportunity to play for Mumbai Indians will be a great learning experience for the young left-arm pacer, who can also bat a bit.

“They have also got the only Tendulkar perhaps money can buy because the other Tendulkar never came at the auction. Arjun was available, they bought him,” Chopra told Star Sports.
“Of course, he can learn a lot from the house as well. He has a father who can teach him the ropes. But now he will be part of a very successful franchise with a lot of knowledge and wisdom around. So I am pretty sure he will benefit from that experience.
“He has been also picking up wickets for Mumbai. It’s not that he has just been picked because his surname is Tendulkar. He has been doing something. Of course, Mumbai wanted him, they got him,” he added.
Arjun Tendulkar made himself eligible for IPL Auction when he made his senior debut for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He played 2 matches and picked up 2 wickets for the senior state side.
Arjun had been on trips with the senior Indian teams in the past as a net bowler. He also trained with the England senior team in 2017 and he caught the attention of the cricket fraternity with his ability to bowl yorkers.
Arjun had been playing for Mumbai at the U-19 level and other age-group competitions. He was part of the Mumbai T20 league which was played in 2019. Arjun also made his IndiaU19 debut in 2018 when he toured with the side for a 2-match Youth Test series against Sri Lanka U19.
